Getting Winmx Work Ubuntu Linux P2p Fileshare

First you will need to run an older version of Wine than the current version (Wine 0.9.49). WinMX accesses an Internet Explorer window, the way this interacts with the new "improvements" for Wine after 0.9.16 causes WinMX to crash. This may be resolved at some point after Wine 0.9.49, but at present it has not.

Get the Proper version of Wine

Your first choice is whether to use the .deb for Ubuntu 6.06, I have used it for 7.04 with no problem, but that is no guarantee of result .Wine 0.9.16 for Ubuntu 6.06 as a .deb .

Or

Wine 0.9.16

To install it do the following:
$ ./configure
$ make depend
$ make
# make install

If the above files do not download, they are also available here

Install WinMX

Get WinMX and Install.

Updating Hosts File to allow WinMX to Connect

Get current Updates at Blocktards.

Copy and then

open terminal and type

sudo gedit /etc/hosts

Then paste the lines from Blocktards
Starting with the line below and copy all the lines from there down into gedit under the present contents.

Save and exit. That should do it.
